Come out for a 2-hour backpacking class with Ranger Theresa Nance.
PRINT YOUR OWN CLASS HANDOUT . THERE WILL NOT BE ANY EXTRAS AT THE PARK.
Discover the most important things to carry when leaving home to enter the wilderness. Park Ranger Theresa Nance will share knowledge about proper clothing, food, equipment, navigation & safety.
Optional: picnic before or during the break in the class, short hike after class. Wildflowers will be beautiful this time of the year.
Things to bring:
1. Water (plenty of it)
2. Sunblock
3. Lunch (no place to buy lunch in the park), bring extra if you want to share with others at the picnic
4. Enough gas to get you home (no gas station nearby)
5. Hat
6. Comfortable shoes for light hiking
7. Sunglasses
8. Rain gear in case of rain
Direction:
The Joseph D. Grant County Park is located at 18405 Mt. Hamilton Rd., San Jose, CA 95140, in the east of Santa Clara Valley. Travel to the park by taking Highway 101 or Highway 680 to Alum Rock Avenue eastbound in San Jose. Turn right onto Mt. Hamilton Road and travel eight miles to reach the park entrance.

Carpool:
Please arrive at carpool location 5mins early for parking.
For Milpitas carpool location A, each passengers please pay your driver the following fee to cover round trip gas and park entrance fee.
-- $5 if car has multiple passengers
-- $6 if you are the only passenger
For location C, $3
Fees for other locations please ask your carpool organizer.

If I remember correctly, there is $5 entrance fee for Grant Park. If you don't mind hiking, there is a parking lot 15min walk away. Just drive past the park entrance about 2 mins, the parking lot is on your left.

I volunteered to help organize carpool. If everyone is doing alright with transportation, a Sunday bike ride at the park is nice

Joey and webmonkey,
Can you guys talk and figure out whether we should add another carpool place? I'm new to the area so I don't have a strong opinion. The advantage is that some people will have a closer place to drive to. And the disadvantage is that two of you have to go to different places to organize carpool seperately.
I just added a driving option, hopefully people will update their RSVP so that you guys can figure out the carpool situation.
